fried mobo. maybe i should upgrade?

I have a couple of 350 mhz chips laying around now. I fried my mobo over the weekend. So it's time to buy a new motherboard. But i'm thinking.. Should i get a dual processor motherboard, and run both my 350s.. or should i get an amd atholon 700mhz? Whiuch would be faster/perform better?

if you have never done a dually, it would be :cool: for the experience

are they matched (stepping) cpu's ?

If you are running a server using Linux or something that supports dual cpu, then go for it.Win 98 and WinME does NOT support dual cpu, so it'll be a waste of time.

That said, if you're using it for games, the only OS you can use (really, for compatability and all) is Win2k. *BUT* Win2k is a resource hog, so you'll probably think THATS a waste of time to.

So what am I saying: Server = Dual; anything else = AMD 700... quite a beast :D

BeOS also supports mulitple cpu if you had any thoughts of trying it ;) (or multi booting)

BeOS kicks some major *** if you are going to be using this 'puter for CAD or graphics or anything like that. It was specifically designed from the ground up JUST for that.

Well... maybe not JUST, but strongly implemented :D

One last thing before I goto bed...

Games huh? There is only ONE game in existence that supports dual cpu, and thats Quake 3. It wount run on a 350, not even in dual... well ok... maybe, but ONLY with all details on INSANELEY LOW and lighting textures off.

And that said... Quake 3 running dual cpu only makes about 20% speed difference, not really that much to be noticed...
