I just bought a new PC-- 700mhz Duron processor, 128mb RAM... I almost feel unworthy looking at it. The only thing is, though, is I haven't installed anything on it yet... It's still a clean slate. I need to know two things:

1. How well does Linux handle on-motherboard stuff like AGP, onboard Ethernet, sound, and the like? Do I need a specific distro? I have Mandrake 6.1 and Red Hat 6.1 immediately available at my disposal, but could go get a new one if required.

2. I also bought a new mouse since my trackball messed up(see previous post). I decided to go with a Logitech Optical mouse. Has anyone tried one of these with Linux? It's got either a PS/2 interface or USB. Could I use USB with any of my distros?

And by the way, just incase anyone asks... I don't have my old computer anymore.. If I did, though, I'd've put it up to offer on the BBS :)

Hey, congratulations on a new cool box! :D

Well, as for the distros you have ..... forget those. Get a recent version instead (Mandrake 7.2 (8.0 if you feel adventorous), or RedHat 7.0) which most likely will support most of the onboard stuff. (USB is most likely _not_ supported by the distros you have.)

Cheers, and have fun! :)
