Thanx beforehand vvx 04-21-2001, 05:15 PM You need to upgrade to XFree86 4.0.2, and then when you set it up select 'ati' for card. ASCI Blue 04-23-2001, 09:27 PM I just installed Mankdrake 7.2 freq with X-free 4.0.2 and I don't have an option for Radeon either. I tried doing a search for how to set it up but after 10 min and no returns I decided to stop. How do I configure X-free to see my Radeon? debiandude 04-23-2001, 10:04 PM Their is no support for the radeon in 4.0.2. 4.0.3 did not resync with dri hence their is no radeon dri driver either. If you need it you must goto dri.sourceforge.net and download it there. scoobydope 04-23-2001, 11:03 PM Originally posted by ASCI Blue: I just installed Mankdrake 7.2 freq with X-free 4.0.2 and I don't have an option for Radeon either. How do I configure X-free to see my Radeon? I am running Mandrake 7.2 with an ATI Radeon 64meg card. It was a bit of a nightmare setting up but only because Mandrake is extremely tricky about telling you what version of Xfree86 you are running. i was pretty sure it was over version 3.3.6 because the package is : 4.0.1-28mdk but i ran the command X -version and got 3.3.6 grrrrr. So yes, you have to upgrade your Xfree86 to the latest version from http://www.xfree86.org Don't let that mandrake package name fool you. You are probably running 3.3.6 ASCI Blue 04-24-2001, 12:34 AM When I did the X -version I did get 3.3.x. Lucky for me I guess that xfree86.org is in it's usual non-working state. I'm curious as to how they change the versions on the RPM files. I'm very newbie you see and have had no luck downloading or installing the newest version of X-free86. The one time I tried something happened and I had to reformat my entire system. Molecule Man 04-24-2001, 03:56 PM Your best bet is to download the binaries, and use the install script they provide. It should properly install and setup everything. ASCI Blue 04-24-2001, 04:22 PM I tried downloading some RPMs and when I "installed" them nothing happened. I double clicked the RPM file, then the install file inside the RPM. When I did it a second time both files (AIM and xfree86 4.0.2-4mdk.blah blah blah) told me they were installed. When I did an X -version the version came up as 3.3.x and my Linux Version came up as 2.2.x.x(iirc). I'm looking at some binaries (I think) now at an FTP. Which should I download the Linux-ix86-glibc21 or Linux-ix86-glibc22? It looks like all the dates are the same. I'm asking, becuase I'm trying to decide whether to buy a Radeon LE 32meg DDR card for this computer to replace my Voodoo 3, or whether I should replace my crappy 14" monitor on my old computer.. All I know for sure, is that that I could get this card pretty cheap, and a new monitor is going to have to come for the other computer sooner or later.. after that, I gotta spend some money getting Freesco on my 486 (it's fine for a 56k modem, though eventually I'll be thinking about moving it up to my P133 I think), then buying a good switch (a REAL switch) for this network.. bdg1983 04-25-2001, 06:26 PM Just bought the same Radeon LE 32meg DDR last weekend along with the TV Wonder, Abit KT7A and a bunch of other new stuff. T-Bird 1.13 is out of stock, but should get it this weekend. Anyways, I was wondering the same about the Radeon VE and was going to try whatever drivers were available. Will try OpenLinux 3.1 Workstation Beta first to see if support is included. If anyone has any luck getting the Radeon to work, I sure would appreciate hearing about it. Thanks. Tiger 04-25-2001, 08:56 PM I've got my new machine built with the Radeon LE 32M DDR. I went to DRI (http://dri.sourceforge.org) and did some reading. From what I read you need XFree86 4.0 and the DRI. Install seems pretty straight forward. They do give you a recommended xf86config file for each of the supported cards. I really should have thought this new machine out a little better than I did. I built a kickass winders box, Radeon, SBLive, etc..., now I wanna dualboot. justlinux.com
