Hi, I have been trying to install the newest version of Red Hat, but I found out that the reason it will not install is becasue it does not support controller cards. Right now I am running a Promise Tech ATA 66. I heard that Mandrake 7.1 supported them....I presently have the 7.2 Disks, but they will not install. They freeze during the boot to install. Any help would be appreciated. Feel free to email me at krohnjw@purdue.edu

The 2.2 kernels dont detect them by default, you have to append when you boot up. Read the UDMA NHF for more information, including chicken and egg, IIRC.

You mean the screen just freezes? Hrmmm...I installed from the harddrive and I had no problems at all. The only thing to watch out for is to make sure your /Mandrake/RPMS/ are all in one directory. I know that when you download the 7.2 ISOs, you get 2 separate directories: RPMS and RPMS2, and that will lead to a failure before the install even begins. My suggestion is to rip your CDs onto your hd and try an install from there, making sure that you only have one Mandrake/RPMS/ directory(also make sure to rawrite the hd image onto a floppy instead of the cd one).
