I've managed to install my Linux 7 to my PC but can't get it to recognize my US Robotics 56k Faxmodem. It's running on Com3 and there are no IRQ conflicts. I've been following my Red Hat 7 for Dummies book but ran out of ways to make this thing work. Can anyone point me in the right direction or tell me to give up on this modem early. I know that Win 95/98 won't recognize it automatically. Thought that was odd for what I believed was a *very* popular modem.

1. write down all modem specs including the part numbers.

2. Search the forums keeping in mind your USR modem.

This question comes up alot, so there is much info in the archive.

do: man setserial

You will most likely need to create a symbolic link from the ttyS2 to /dev/modem.

you will then need to do: lspci as root and jot down the modem resources to use in the setserial command.
