I just loaded Linux-Mandrake 7.2 on my computer. I set the monitor for MAG model DX1795, selected from list. When Linux starts it comes up in a Generic monitor. I when into the DrakConfig and reset to monitor to MAG model DX1795 and set the resolution I wanted. It asked if I wanted it to start with this setting and I selected 'yes'. The next time I started Linux it was back in a Generic monitor at an unacceptable resolution. What's happening? Why doesn't Linux remember my settings? Any body have any ideas?

hello,
i don't know why the setting are not being kept, i suspect it is a mandrake issue (i don't know, i don't use mandrake) anyway - i am guessing you used Xconfigurator to set up X, i suggest you use xf86config, this will give you more control. you may need to enter the vertical & horizontal refresh rates. the file which controls all the X stuff is /etc/X11/XF86Config , possiblely /etc/X11/XF86Config-4
