I just recently got a copy of RedHat Linux v5.2 on CD_ROM for my personal computer<which has no internet connection>. I installed Linux and tried to setup Xwindow, the problem is, thier was'nt a server for it http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/frown.gif I tried to use similar servers like SVGA or S3, but no dice. Is there any way to get a Sis server for Xwindow? or is there a server I can use instead? Thank you for your time.

NAME SiS 530
CHIPSET SiS530
SERVER SVGA
NOCLOCKPROBE

taken from the Cards database file for Xfree86-3.3.6. Im shure the version that comes with Redhat5.2(old) should be the same. The S3 drivers are not for your card.Try and get a new version of Redhat or something else and you should have better luck.

I don't have sis530servers in my version and the new 3.3.6 version is to big to fit on floppy. :(

I dont think there are any 530 servers untill you get to XFree4.0.1 You just have to use the vga or svga(recomended) server.

I have used the svga server with XFree86 versions 3.3.5 and above with my SiS 530 with no problems.

Have tried the following experments based on advice:

SVGA server-no go, it can't pick up the sis530's RAM
VGA - black lines than blue screen, a white line will appear and move if certain keysare pressed
One possible problem is that I looked at my monitor and it said 50-60hz range, Xconfigurator does'nt have this range option, only 50-70hz. Is there any way to change it to 50-60hz.
Download Xfree86 is unfortunatly out of the question, if anyone knows where it can be purchased on cd-rom, please tell me. null
