Hello, I just popped in the above with Mandrake 8.1 and the XCdroast program. It worked fine with the ol 4x I had but won't read the new one? I then upgraded to Man 8.2 and the same thing. I can see that the kernel is configuring the CD RW correctly but still when I open Xcdroast and try to read a cd rom, it says there no cd in the drive.. The info I got from the Dmesg text file is below..
SCSI Host Adapter Emulation IDE ATAPI DEVICE VERBATIM 241040 CD DVD ROM DRIVE
type cdrom 58SA ANSI SCSI REV. 02
As you can see above it is saying DVD rom drive?? I went to the Xcdroast home page and left a message but anyone have nay ideas?
I went to the hardware database @ mandrakesoft and only 2 of the cendyne drives are listed. The Cendyne Box says 24x10x40 cdrw, but I think it is actually made by lite on..
Thanks for any info
David

So cdrecord -scanbus shows the drive?

Is it listed in the dropdown menus in the XCDRoast Setup?

The cd is listed in the configuration menu of Xcdroast. The configuration says cd-rom. I don't remember if it said cd-rw with the ol 4x . I tried the cdrecord - scanbus and that won't work. I can go into the mandrake control center and under cdroms it just says
bus type: atapi/ide ??
I might pop the old one back in just to see if it picks it up. maybe this thing is not suported yet..

Make sure you are root when you type cdrecord -scanbus, then post the result.
