I am very new at this. I have just put on Mandrake 8.0. I am haveing trouble with a hew things.
- I can not get it out of 800x600 res
I think this is because my vid card is not set up properly. I have a geforce mx400 64meg how do i set it up?
-And I can not connect to the internet with linux when I try it tells me that the modem is busy.
These are the major probs any help would by great.

By the way what would be best mandrake 8 or redhat 7.1 ??????
And if it is better how do I get rid of mandrake and put on red hat?
For Newbie's Mandrake it suppose t be the best but RH 7.1 is not that hard for newbie either.
RH 7.1 is not bloated as MDK that at least my opnion.
I run SuSe 7.1 so can comment to much about either.
But i have played around with both.

For the Geforce, you may need to download and install the nvidia drivers. I don't have one myself, but there are many many posts on Geforce/nvidia in General, Hardware, Software and Technical Forums.
Doing a search will most likely find all the information you need on where to download and how to install. There were one or two yesterday that had instructions.
Is your modem a winmodem? If not, then try disabling PnP OS in the bios. This sometimes helps with pci cards. Device busy usually means a resource (irq or i/o address) conflict.
Please post a few more details on your modem.

I have got rid of mandrake and put on red hat 7.1 this helped with the vid card it is working now but the same thing is happening with the modem still says modem busy when i try to dial-up

Yea David, it did it again. Actually I emailed you yesterday about it and I also commented in another thread about the bbs trying to tell me something.
