Ok, my power went out last night =[ Everything seemed to be fine til I check the sound.. and that was bad. I fired up the wolfenstein demo, and got no sound. Then after that.. I had no sound at all. When I do

"ls -l /dev/snd"
I get...
"/dev/snd -> ../proc/asound/dev" Except its blinking in red!
So I shutdown, took the card out and rebooted.. everything was fine ( no sound ). I put the card back in fired it up, and it seemed good with sound. I then started wolfenstein up again, it killed my sound and I got the same result from "ls -l /dev/snd"

Can someone help me please?

Thanks, goon12

PS It's a brand new card, and it works fine under Win98 on the same machine ( dual boot)

I'm not sure what's killing your sound, but the blinking red indicates a broken symlink. Strangely enough, I just checked it out on my (Mandrake 8.0) system and I get the same result. The reason: the /proc/asound directory doesn't exist on my box. Weird, but it's too late at night to go digging for the answer.

I don't understand, does your sound work in other apps, but stop working when you run wolfenstein? In which case, are you running wolfenstein as root? Maybe wolfenstein behaves badly and changes the symlink. Just running it as a regular user should stop it from doing that.
