Is it possible to flash the BIOS with wine? I have tried booting to DOS and flashing it but the flashing program apparently requires win32. Is it safe to use wine for this?

Choozo 03-20-2002, 05:49 PM Well, that's first time I've heard a BIOS flash utility actually require Win32 binaries  I don't think I would trust Wine with this either. Usually you only need a DOS bootfloppy that have command.com on it, and don't load anything to HIMEM, along with the flash utility. What make/model of motherboard/BIOS is this? Cheers :) Stween 03-21-2002, 11:23 AM It is odd that a program to flash the BIOS requires Windows, but I have definately seen this before. I would imagine there would be a DOS based flashing program available *somewhere* on the website -- any BIOS update I have seen is the actual BIOS image, with a seperate burner program. If they can't offer a DOS burner, they are alienating users of their boards that aren't windows users. 2damncommon 03-21-2002, 09:55 PM Ditto, here. The couple times I have flashed BIOS, I made a DOS system disk (is it format a: /s ??) with Win98 and copied the BIOS program onto the disk with the MB flash utility, if needed. Sometimes a BIOS.exe from Windows will do all this for you. You need to read the site and any read me files carefully. justlinux.com
