I have no idea how this happened... I was installing the nvidia drivers on my RH7.1/WindowsMe box, after successfully building kernel 2.4.10. They seemed to install perfectly, and I started x and worked for a short time. Then suddenly everything froze. I couldn't get out of x, or even switch to another virtual terminal. Then when I restarted, the screen was extremely messed up. I don't know how to explain this clearly, but basically, though I could see the general shapes of the letters and lines in the boot screens, everything was very distorted. I've rebooted tons of times, checked to make sure my video card was connected well, tried another monitor, and cleaned all the dust out of the box. I really do not know what to do about this. Windows will no longer boot properly, except in safe mode, and even then the screen is distorted. Linux will boot to cli, but X freezes when I start it. I really need this computer, so any help is greatly appreciated.

the only thing that comes to mind is a hardware failure. If its effecting both OS then something is wrong with your vid card or you pushed your monitor too far in your X setup.

Yeah... I got it figured out, sort of. It was the video card (I tested another monitor, and the same video card in another computer. Fortunately, I am still within the warranty, so I can probaly exchange it. I'll have to be more careful with future X stuff.
