hi. I bought a Zoom external 56k modem for my system. I am having some trouble though. Under slackware 7.1, the modem connects to the internet fine, but when I try to do anything it is INCREADIBLY slow. The problem used to be downloads would just timeout and I would have to restart them, but now it's so slow I can't even browse the internet--everything times out. I have tried 3 different versions of ppp, tried all the speed settings under pppsetup from 14.4k up to 230k, and still no luck. The modem works great under mandrake 7.2 and windows, but not slackware. Does anyone have any suggestions?
