i get a message somethin to the effect of:
hda : dma_intr: status=0x51 [ DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
and my box freezes often when i am in X...could this be a hard drive problem?
Search Google (http://www.google.com) for the keyphrase "dma_intr: status=0x51". I just tried it and got about 5 pages of responses, but without knowing the specifics of your system, I don't know which of them might apply to your situation.

DMR's correct as Google would be your best bet. Not many of us would have had the same exact error as yours and searching at Google would give you a better chance of finding a solution.
Personally, I always try Google first. We (and most certainly 'I') don't know everything.
If you find an answer and you still have a question, then by all means, post back.

i found it:
there was a posting on the kernel newsletter.
it said that there is no problem, just dirty crosstalk on my ribbon...and i cant safely support the transfer rate....i guess i should disable dma on my hard drive.....
posted this so you guys, as well as i, would know in case anyone else asked this question.
i did search first, ask second....i just searched for the wrong string.

You already found what it meant, but a suggestion is to use 80 conductor wires as they can cut down on the amount of crosstalk in the data cables. Also if you rolled your cables- replace them, as likely you cut a wire.

Those search engines are damn handy. Pass it on. ;)
