Just wondering if anyone here at LNO has managed to get pcmcia services working within any of the new 2.4 series kernels?

I am running a Dell Latitude with a Texas Instruments PCI-1225 Cardbus Controller and cannot seem to get my slots working. Forget about the modem itself, the slots themselves are not working.

When cardbus services start up at boot time, I get the error message that "no drivers can be found in /proc/devices".

I have tried recompiling with the latest kernel. I have tried installing the latest pcmcia services. All to no avail.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. :D

This may sound strange, but to get pcmcia services working under RedHat 7.1 w/ 2.4 kernel I had to do some silly things. I ultimately ended up installing Mandrake 8.0, getting the /etc files I needed, re-installing RedHat 7.1, and copying the files into RedHat's /etc files. Mandrake didn't play nice when setting up video, so I stuck with RedHat. My ethernet and modem card (pcmcia) are now working, but the pcmcia CD-RW that used to work under 2.2 isn't working under 2.4. If it wasn't for the noticeable speed difference (for me) I would go back to 2.2.

hmmm...

That is odd. I am actually in the reverse situation you are. What type of laptop and pcmcia bridge?

It seems that you were able to take the files that were installed by Mandrake and import them into Redhat and all was happy. Was pcmcia working just under Mandrake before the switch to RedHat?

Maybe I will try installing RedHat and import its files into Mandrake. Who knows, stranger things have worked ;)

The pcmcia page over at sourceforge indicates that there are known issues with the new 2.4 kernels and cardbus systems. Hopefully this will get ironed out soon.
