8mb is about the lower limit, there is a way to put linux onto a 4 mb pc, but i wouldn't recommend it for a beginner

many distros of linux will say you need more than 8mb, but you can try it and see

as far as a specific "server" any linux distribution can be loaded with "server" pieces, ie the software programs that do "server" functions, so maybe give us a little more info about how you will use this boxen

like web serving? or email serving? or file serving?

or just to play/learn linux?

I am wanting to use it for a web server for now. I just realized that I had it laying around at the house so I thought that I could use it for a web server. I have 5.1, 6.2, and 7.0 RH. Is there a better version to run on this old of a system?? Should I download a different or older version??

how big is the hard drive?
i would go ahead and do a custom rh7 install if you hd is at least 1gb

if <1gb, then try rh6.2

that 8mb might be trouble, there are some people that frequent the hardware trading forum that have some spare 72 pin simms, if that is what that boxen uses, then maybe see if you can add 8mb of ram for just a few $$

good luck! :)
