i picked up a 128MB DIMM chip the other day for my MB... but it doesn't want to work.
i took out my 4 simm chips (totalling 48 MB, hehe) and put the DIMM in... i know it was in correctly, and i also tried both slots. nothing happens in both cases... i believe my MB might only want to support 2 chips at the same time...

i can't find out what make/model my MB is.. any ideas?
i've looked all over the MB itself and couldn't find any information, although i think it should be there somewhere...
it has an on-board video (SiS 5597) and on-board sound (CMI 8330)... it has 2 DIMM slots, 4 SIMM slots, 3 ISA, 4 PCI, socket 7 chip... if you can tell from this information, then sweet... but if not, could you tell me where i can get more information? perhaps from BIOS, it's an old AMIBIOS chip....

where else can i tell what kind of motherboard it is? i want to look it up and see if there are jumpers for the RAM, (rare, but possible) or if i need two chips at the same time...

can anyone tell me why i would need two chips instead of just being able to run only one single chip? what is the difference?

I've got a similar mobo - might even be the same one. It's made by a company called Jetway. Thing is that it has jumper settings for which memory you have in - you have to set the jumpers to reflect what ones you have plugged in. I have a manual for mine, but its at home, and I'm at work. Try the Jetway website (I think it's www.j-mark.com) (http://www.j-mark.com)) for more info.

Hi,
Whenever I have trouble finding out who made what,I go to this site..Almost all hardware has a FCC ID number on board..Read that number and go here to find out who made it..
Good Luck,

Greetings,
Since it is an old MB, and I'm guessing it is a brand new DIMM, there should be problems with the frequencies, i.e. your MB should only accept 66Mhz data bus DIMM's and your DIMM is probably 100/133Mhz.
Hope this helps.
