I just bought a 40GB Western Digital Hard drive and a Promise ATA/100 controller card. Does anyone know of any issues I should be aware of?

Also, what do you guys think about Micron RAM?

micron makes very nice ram.

Look for Tom's Hardware site. Generally has good reviews, that seem(ok, I haven't dug into the guys closet) pretty impartial.

May be a good idea to search the forums for ATA100 or Promise.
