My PC no longer reboots (or boots when powered up) directly. The power switch does nothing. The reset switch spins the drive, etc., but still often does not boot the system.

When I do have to reboot, I have to repeatedly hit the reset and wait. Eventually, it boots up again.

The connections all look fine in the box, and the computer works perfectly once 'up.'

I'm ordering a 'bare bones' system soon:
motherboard, athlon chip, box and power supply and transferring all my peripherals to it. That should end the problem (and I planned to do this upgrade anyway). I'm just wondering what would be causing the problem with my current box, since I plan to give it away to someone who could use the upgrade.

BTW, anything I should steer away from regarding motherboard/chips? I don't want to have any problems with linux on my new system.
