I have a "C" drive running windows 98, and just installed a second 30 Gb to host Linux (Mandrake 7.0). I am trying to reserve 10 Gb as a FAT32 drive for joint Windows/Linux use, and the remaining 20 Gb for Linux.

I get through the install successfully, but it craps out when trying to install the bootloader. Evidently, it can't be so far out on the disk.

Does anyone know how I can achive the result I am looking for (i.e., a 10Gb partition that is FAT32, and a 20 Gb that is Linux).

This is my first crack at Linux, and it hasn't gone so well. Any help would be, well, just special.

Gracias,

Sam

Install it in the MBR. The lilo on it must be the one where is had to be before cylinder 32 or something. Just install in MBR of hda.

Install lilo to the MBR and create at least a 5-15MB /boot partion at the front of the drive. Then you can create a 10gig Vfat partion and partion the rest for Linux.

First of all, the topic is a popular one here and seaching the forums may give you some ideas.

The NHF here (http://www.linuxnewbie.org/nhf/intel/osbooting/lilo_dual.html) covers the older version of Lilo and the 1024 cylinder limitation.

Upgrading your distro to one that has the newer Lilo or the other bootloader Grub will also help.

You can also search here (http://support.calderasystems.com/caldera) for keywords such as lilo, second or grub for more info.
