winmodems and win4lin

I have a conexantK56 softmodem in my box. I have been reading some posts here and elswhere about getting it to work with linux. My question is, will a soft modem or modem enumerator work with win4lin? Has anyone tried this? If not win4lin does it work with wine? I really don't want to go to the trouble of setting up VMware or rebooting to Windoze. Thanks.

Don't know about win4lin, but with VMWare, the device must be configured and working in the host (Linux) before it will work in the guest (Windows).
