If I ever win the lottery I'm thinking I'd buy a SCSI drive...or I find one for a decent price. Are there any hardware prerequisites for a SCSI drive? How does it plug in to the mobo, etc...?

If your looking for a decent controller go with adaptec (29160). They are very well supported. If money is an issue I'd recommend tekram. bdg1983 03-24-2001, 11:30 AM You can get m/b's that have builtin SCSI on the board or a separate SCSI controller (PCI card). Adaptec are well supported. DMR 03-24-2001, 05:17 PM There are a few different flavors of SCSI in use these days (wide, LVD, Ultra 160). For the most reliable performance, you should make sure that the drive type matches the controller card's capabilities. For example, the Adaptec 29160 (good card, BTW) is an ultra 160 card, so you would get an Ultra 160 drive. Theoretically, the newer/faster SCSI implementations are supposed to be backward compatible, but in practise, I've found that to be far from true ;) . Other than that, the only things to watch out for are SCSI ID conflicts (if you have multiple devices) and proper bus termination. justlinux.com
