I'm considering a purchase of a motherboard with a built-in RAID controller. I'm looking at the Abit VP6. What I want to know is, does this type of RAID controller work in Linux, or am I screewged until I get a SCSI-RAID controller? :p

Dunno, but I think http://www.linux.org or http://www.linux.com has a hardware compatibility list.

I wouldn't bet too much on getting that to work in Linux. If you got the cash to spend, go for a SCSI controller (and disks). Otherwise, there is always IDE Software Raid which works quite well in Linux.

Cheers! :)

software raid sucks. You could always get a Promise raid controller (PCI). I know it works on RH 7.x so it should work in others.
