I'm upgrading my system and I need a new ATX case. So I was wondering how much power I need. I'm runnning a BP6 w a single Celeron 400, two HD (5400 IDE and 7200 SCSI), a V3, and sound and NIC cards.

I'll probably run the Celeron up to 550 - 600 Mhz with a big heat sink. Maybe add another case fan.

So I'm trying to decide if I can squeak by with 230 W or should I go with 250W? Or is 300W needed?

I'm not planning on doing a dual cpu system. A newer Duron or Athlon system would run rings around it. Esp w/DDR becoming more and more available. And I wouldn't want to run a BX chipset at 133Mhz anyway. 100% OC'ing is a little steep, esp for an older board.

Based on my experience, you should be fine with 230. But, more would never hurt, and could allow for greater expansion in the future.

300 Watts minium why ?.All I can say is been there done that don`t screw youself .Rember when you run games your video card and cd draw one and a half times to twice the power.Comes in real handy if you say add a burner or higher end video card or dvd in the future.Always better to have a little more now then not enuff later!Spend the extra $10 and get 300 to 330 watts.

I recently upgraded to an 800 mhz Duron and soon after my 250w power supply overheated.
Well, sooner than later I upgraded to a 300w power supply and I haven't any problems since.

The power requirements of the Athlons and Durons is much more than the P3's and Celery's. 230W should be just fine, 250W is the highest I would go. 300W on your rig is overkill.
