I downloaded the binary files for my lucent LT winmodem from http://www.sfu.ca/~cth/ltmodem/
they basically have to files one is for 686 and another for 586. Which one should I install for a AMD Duron 750? Anyways I proceeded to install the 686 rpm driver. It seems to install perfectly fine, but I cant still get the modem to work the file /dev/tts/LT0 does not exist (or I cannot see it using the file browser or the ls command) nor does /dev/ttyLT0 I cant either see the /dev/modem

did anyone have to install these binary drivers into mandrake 8.2? can anyone give me any details as to what they did?

586 are Pentium class cpus and 686 are P2 and up. You should download the 686 version, but the 586 will also work on your cpu.

I got the source files for the Lucent modem from here (http://www.heby.de/ltmodem) and once compiled and installed, it created the devices for my setup. Although I am using Slackware 8.0!

it is a lot batter to get the source instead of the RPM's, believe me i have an LT lucent Modem as well and source is the right way. What you should do is download this (http://www.physcip.uni-stuttgart.de/heby/ltmodem/ltmodem-6.00c2.tar.gz) and then do:

tar xzvf ltmodem-6.00c2.tar.gz

then do:

cd ./ltmodem-6.00c2 ( or something)

then do:

./scanPCI

then ./build_module (i think)

then:
./ltinst2 (i think)

then ./auto**

then thats it. Remember the actually files might be called something else this is just off the top of my head, make sure you read the README, or INSTALL file before doing anything. Remember you have to do scanPCI before you actually install. GOOD LUCK ;)

I didn't change any jumpers on the modem and Disable the PNP in the BIOS. That should be all u have to do.
