I tried my best to get Linux to work, but had to trash it after failing to get my sound card to work.

It's a Philips Seismic Edge sound card, and while there are no linux drivers available from the manufacturer, I figured that there had to be SOME independent drivers out there, or at least some way to emulate a supported sound card. I mean, Philips sound cards are pretty popular in Europe, and at least passingly well-known in America, and people program pretty obscure drivers for Linux. I mean, I can probably find drivers for my toilet if I could hook it up to my computer.

ANYway, I'm thinking about giving it another shot... So anyone know anything about the elusive Linux philips drivers?

It would probably be easier finding linux drivers for your toilet than your soundcard.

A Google search didn't find anything for your Phillips.

Give http://www.alsa-project.org a try as they might have drivers.

Mandrake 8.2 got my philips 'Harmonic Edge' (Philips model PSC602) to play for me, first try.
The chips used on my philips card were upgrades of chips which Mandrake had drivers for, so I guess Mandrake simply plugged in the older drivers. Audio quality stunk, so I went back to my SB16!!!

By the way, you likely won't get 3d sound capability for a few months.

Good point about drivers not coming from philips, but I suspect that philips may want to listen soon, europe hates patented, closed source software and Linux is about as far from closed as one can get: philips will soon hear the european Linux community!
