Hi,

I've just installed Mandrake 8.2 and have a small problem with using it. Whenever I try to change the desktop resolution, the system logs me off and I end up back (Without the applied resolution) on the graphical logon screen.

This occurs regardless of how I try to change it, for example, pressing "Ctrl - Alt - + / -" or trying to set a game to fullscreen mode.

Please help if you know what I'm doing wrong, I'm using a Voodoo 3 3000 AGP 16MB with 3D Acceleration enabled at 1024 x 768 x 16bit colour. I also have an S3 ViRGE aswell, which I told Mandrake to ignore (Since it doesn't seem to let me have 3D acceleration with the multi-monitor configuration of these two cards - would that be possible if I upgraded to a dual-head GeForce perhaps?)

Are you sure your being logged off or is X crashing and then respawning?

I'm not sure... all I know is that the monitor goes black, clicks about 3 or 4 times, then I'm back at the logon screen, back at my original resolution.

Is there a way that I can tell if it is crashing?

The only thing that lets me change the resolution is DrakConf (Mandrake Control Center), and even then, after the the resolution has been tested, it tells me that I have to log off and log back in so that the changes can take effect. I never had these problem with Mandrake 7.0.

Thanks

I'm willing to bet that X is crashing. Take a look in your XFree86 log, you might find some clues to what's causing this.

This is a known issue with mandrake 8.2. See their erratta page on their website.
