I'm busy checking out my possibilities for a motherboard.
And -for now- the DDR mobos **available** to me either come with only 2 DDR slots (read below) or I gotta buy a SDR-only mobo. 4-slotted DDR is waay out of my budget.

The resellers here only sell DDR with a maximum of 256 MB. So I get stuck with a maximum on-board of 2x256MB=512MB for a DDR system.

Or I could buy a SDR system and top its RAM off with 3x512MB=1536MB of RAM.

What would you recommend?
I mean RAM amount *does* make a big speed difference right? But does DDR make more sense? I don't think so.

DDR has a faster access time, so if you don't use lots and lots of programs at once, or programs that require lots of memory, it would probably be the better choice.

It really depends on your application.

Edit: By "faster access" I really meant data throughput. DDR can effectively transfer double the amount that SDRAM can in the same amount of time.

Two slots for DDR should be plenty providing you buy all the RAM you need right now. I know they make gig DIMMs now (in SDRAM at least, I would assume DDR too). With RAM prices as cheap as they are now, it would be silly not to go with DDR.
