what ever you can get for cheap, swithc/hubs are so mature that you will rarely find a lemon

i have seen some purty good deals for used ones on the hardware trading forums at www.arstechnica.com (http://www.arstechnica.com) and www.anandtech.com (http://www.anandtech.com) lately, although most of them are hubs, not switches

you want a switch for home use? or is this for work?

i just evaled ATI switches to replace our ATI hubs here at work, we have thousands of ATI hubs deployed and i have never heard anybody bad mouth them/complain

I have a D-Link DSS-5+ (works fine for me). Honestly all the unmanaged switches are pretty much the same, any of them will work.

I have the D-Link DSS-8+, Linksys 1-port router and Cablemodem and one I set it up, that's just about it besides occasionally flashing the bios of the Linksys.

I've had the D-Link for around 9 months now and to tell you the truth, I don't even think about it. Always there, always works.
