I have a 17" Dell monitor that does 1280x1024. Lately I've been getting a kind of second image behing what it actually shows. I think that maybe I've always had it, but it's been showing up more lately. Is my monitor about to die or is there something I can do about it?

Do you dualboot where you could check if it still happens in the other os?

If not, then was there any changes you have made to X or anything else that could cause this? Perhaps try a lower resolution and see if you still get the ghosting.

Could be the monitor on it's way out.

It does it in linux and windows, and the reason I mention it is that it's getting to the point where I'm gonna have to switch to a lower resolution just to read the text in some programs. I don't want to do that, because at this resolution I can comfortably read an entire sheet of paper in WordPerfect.

Try a lower refresh rate...not to be confused with the resolution. :) That may help.

I only have 3 options in windows (optimal, 60, and adapter), and they all do it about the same. I don't have linux right now. I had mandrake 8, but I took it off because I didn't like it's hardware configuration utilities. I'm waiting on a friend's SuSE cd's so I can put that on, but maybe I can try something then.
