Well I just installed Suse 7.2 and it doesn't seem to like either the mouse itself or the PS/2 port.... The little lite on the underside doesn't even turn on. Needless to say a optical mouse doesn't work without the light. I have a MSI K7T Turbo (MS-6330) Motherboard. Anyone know what might be causing this?

Mmm I'm sure this is not because of Suse 7.2. It rather sounds as a defect mouse or PS/2 port.

Try to install the mouse elsewhere. Or try another OS with the same mouse/motherboard combination.

I would be rather surprised if this is Suse's fault.

Have you checked the mouse sections at www.xfree86.org (http://www.xfree86.org) as they have examples for the different kinds of mice and also suggestions for the correct protocols to use.

I would say it's more than likely you're mouse. I know alot of people who used the intellimice, and the mice just died. Chances are the cable is fractured up where it goes into the mouse. Try the mouse on a different machine, if it still doesn't work, give microsoft a call. I gave them a call, and 5 days later I got a free MS Optical explorer. (The 5 button mouse) which was worth about twice as much as my intellemouse. Say what you will about microsoft, they're customer service isn't too shabby.

When I boot into Windows 2000 the mouse works just fine. :(

I use SuSE 7.2, but not this pointing device. It might be helpful to go to www.suse.com (http://www.suse.com) to make sure there aren't any upgrades to sax2 or kde needed. This might be a sax2 pointing device configuration problem.
