Hi.
After a week I'm just about getting there. I have learnt about Linux's dir structure and mounting devices. I know how to get Linux to see my Windows partition and now understand a little more about lilo.conf, and fstab or whatever it's called. I even got my printer to work! Now for the digital camera (gave up on the scanner, installed the plustec driver countless times to no avail). I know the camera is hooked up to a USB port and this is listed as /dev/ttyUSB or some such thing. I guess I just have to select the correct one when I try to use the Gnome photo application. But there are about 20 USB's listed. When I start at USB0 and work up I get a 'permission' error, 'see help file'. I don't think the help file even mentiones the word permission. I tried this logged in as root. if I choose a serial port, I don't get a msg (but of course it isn't hooked up to a serial port, is it? Is it that the USB port chosen is in use? (mouse, keyboard, sperakers)? If so, how do I find out what USB port the camera is plugged in to? I've looked in the RedHat system info application and it doesn't list any ports, just HDD space and CPU usage, etc.

Gosh, I'm not sure this is going to help you, but I'll give it a whirl anyway. :) If you're not seeing any USB Port listings in your system information, chances are Red Hat didn't detect and/or didn't install the ports. Make sure that USB support is enabled in your BIOS. I ran into this problem earler today . . . Linux-Mandrake didn't detect my USB ports right away . . . until I enabled them in the BIOS.

Hi kapwfm.
I might just not be looking in the right place for the listings. Where should I look? I know RedHat installs some as the mouse, speakers and keyboard are all USB and I see a msg about USB when the system starts. The gphoto app lists a few com ports but no USB. The camera works fine in Windoze. it's probably something really simple.
Thanks for the reply!
