a freind of mine gave me an old toshiba t1910/200 laptop. it's got a 486 processor in it and eventually i want to put linux on it. the question is this: i want to connect it to my network, but i'm not sure what type of "pc card" i need. this is the info i have on the pcmcia slot: 14.5mm PCMCIA 2.01 compliant slot supports Type I, II, and III and larger cards is this the regular old pc card i can get at best buy or do i need something special?...if i need something special, what?

tia

oh...just remembered...does anybody know if this laptop has a bios i get into using a special key (del doesn't work) or is it a software bios?

You should be able to use any standard PCMCIA cards and also search http://www.linux-laptop.net/ for any help on your laptop.

For the BIOS, I have a Toshiba 500CDT (using it right now) and although I haven't had to change anything in the BIOS for quite a while, I believe you need software for this. TSETUP.EXE or something like that. I still have all the diskettes for my 500CDT, but they are all put away and not to easy to get at. Searching for your laptop model at Toshiba under support/drivers should get you all the info, drivers and software you need.

Good luck and post back if your still stuck on this.

the bios thing isn't much of a big deal, i was just wondering about it. you did answer my question about the pc card, which i greatly appreciate. i was afraid to blow some dough on something only to find out it isn't compatible or worse break it and have the store tell me to get bent. thanx
