In here http://www.linuxnewbie.org/cgi-bin/ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=2&t=005364

you said your crappy scanner worked fine.
But I'm curious as to WHAT scanner you have??
I'll be buying one in a couple of months so..I'm aiming hard fora Linux-supported one.

TIA

Mike - sorry I missed your first post. I've got an older Hewlett Packard 4100C Scanjet that runs USB. AFAIK you cannot get this scanner anymore, and as a matter of fact, I've worked for an HP dealer for close to 7 years now, I think we only sold about 3 of them. Two of them were mine, and the first one I bought failed the smoke test after about two scans. No joke. At any rate, I'd check out the Sane compatibility list (http://panda.mostang.com/sane/sane-backends.html) and choose something they claim is "OK". Affordability is a plus of course. ;) Good luck!
