Hi,

I'm planning on buying a notebook next week and I'm not sure what to get. I have narrowed it down to two models.

Toshiba 4330XCDT Celeron 650 128Mb RAM 10GB HDD 14" TFT Screen
Dell Inspiron 4000 Celeron 700 64MB RAM 5GB HDD 14" TFT Screen

I'm planning on Running either Redhat 7.1 or Debian Unstable on it, but I'm not sure which notebook will be more compatible. I will also have to buy a pcmcia network card for it so it's important that linux supports the pcmcia used by the notebook. Both notebooks are around the same price but I'm leaning towards the Toshiba because of the bigger HDD and more RAM. Which do you reccamend i get?

Mike

I have the Dell Inspiron 4000 and Debian runs fine with no problems. I have Pentium III 850 with 128MBs ram.

I also had the integrated Intel LAN card option($35) and it works fine. I do have PMCIA working if you go that route.

I like the Dell Lattitudes better than the inspirions.... but have put a few distros on each with no problem.

Check on the chipsets for the toshiba, particularly the cardbus. Toshiba uses a really crappy chipset in some of thier notebooks.

Here (http://swflug.org/article.php?sid=30&mode=thread&order=0&thold=0) are some more links fore those considering notebooks.
