okay this is what I have - Redhat 7, upgraded to 2.4.1 - Sound Blaster 16 PnP ISA - also I have dual operating systems with Win98
This is what I did - I used the pnpdump and got all the settings. I set what I thought would be the correct IRQ DMS and IO and it detected the sound card at boot. But I am not getting any sound.. is there anything else I should do?
Thanks

Run sndconfig in a console as root.

It may not be in your path.
Try "locate sndconfig" - if you get a error about a old/missing database, then do updatedb first.

i must be one of the lucky ones then. i have had RH7 installed for 4 days now and have no problems yet.
i had to run that sndconfig thing as well. it picked up my SB live valu right away.
now i just need to put some effort into getting it to recognize my burner. HP 9310. it found my cdrom and i can play muzk off of it, but it is kinda old and dying. so i want to use the burner to play muzk from.
i am sure i will find out how to.
just read and ask Q's. it will come

In case u didn't know, you have to be root in order to run sndconfig (I believe) and it will give u that error if you are a user. Just su and then type in your password, you'll be logged as root and u can run sndconfig... Just a though, hope this helps...
