I am still receiving the 'Unable to enter file:/mnt/cdrom2. You do not have the access rights to this location' error message when trying to access my CDRW. I receive the same message, except for CDROM (instead of CDROM2) when I try to access the DVD player. HAHA HEHE it only gets better. As if this wasnt enough to test my patience with Mandrake 7.2 I have started receiving the same error for my ZIP drive (i.e. file:/mnt/zip), although it is some what more intermittent. I have tried the fix recommended by Mandrake where the 'broken' link is repaired by linking the cdrom2 device (my CDRW) to scd0. This was only a temporary fix as after I rebooted the problem was back and the linking of cdrom2 to scd0 did not work this time. If there is anyone who might offer a suggestion alternative to the Mandrake fix I am all ears. These problems were such lovely surprises after the week long endeavor to get my sound card working. Gesh - I WILL NOT GIVE UP - or maybe I will. Anyways thanks to anyone who can offer some help.

This is very strange, and I don't really think I can help you...
But I can tell you one thing: In WinNT I experimented with denying everybody access to a directory, just to see what would happen?
I logged in as Administrator (=root) and Administrator was the owner of the directory.
I was denied access! I could change the permissions, though, and get access to my directory again.
Well, not much help maybe, but I believe anything is worth checking by now?

hello,
i had the exact same problem for 2 weeks (including a floppy padlock)and this tutorial solved the problem for me completely: http://www.linux-mandrake.com/en/demos/Tutorial/CDburner.
also, i did this fix befor i found the tutorial which seems to work as a temp solution :
create new cdrom directories in /mnt (ie cdrom_1 , cdrom_2.) change lines fstab to these directories (/mnt/cdrom_1...etc.)
hope this helps. i was starting to get frustrated myself w/ this problem and it sure felt good when it was fixed.
now i get to try to get my sound card to work. yay.
