Hi I am very new to Linux and am having trouble getting the soun card on my redhat 7.0 to work. I tried to use the sndconfig utility for the purpose. The soundcard that I have is a Media Vision and I have the IRQ and port IO info with me too (IRQ=5 and portIO=220). While running the utility, it says that it would try and install the drivers but exits with error messages. I have tried searching good step by step documentation for it, but have not found it. I would really appreciate a detailed reply or guidance as to where I can find documentation for it. Also I am running kernel version 2.2.17-14 which I upgraded just yesterday. On another website I saw kernel version 2.4.2 for redhat "wolverine" which said to have patches for hardware related problems. Do I need to upgrade to that kernel too ?

Thanks

You most likely have a resource conflict.

Have you disabled PnP in the BIOS?

Is the soundcard PCI, ISA and can the IRQ/IO be set manually?
