Hello board

I am running Mandrake 8.2 on my laptop and it seems to be running very hot. The fan NEVER stops running and the air coming out feels also much hotter as compared to when I run XP. I XP the air feels cooler and the fan is mostly off. Is there a way to fix this problem? The laptop is running on an Athlon4 1600+

BTW. It is detecting the CPU correctly as AMD4

Thanks

I remember some time ago when I was looking into installing Linux on a older Toshiba laptop of mine, I read something at the Linux laptop site ( www.linux-laptop.net (http://www.linux-laptop.net) or something like that ) that mentioned some Linux apps available for power/fan control.

Try the Linux laptop site to see if there is something on your laptop or a similiar model.

A Google search ( www.google.com/linux (http://www.google.com/linux) ) may also find something to help. Perhaps it's something in the kernel that needs to be enabled to slow the processor down when idle etc.

I have found that kernel does not yet support speedstep technology, so the cpu always runs hot. This is not good at all :( Hope they fix this soon.

I'm sure I've seen laptop utilities (mentioned at the Linux laptop website) that will handle this.

Try a Google search for i.e. 'laptop cooling utilites'.
