Off and on my sound just goes away in my user account on my Linux Mandrake box. I run the sound configurator in prompt or Hard Drake and most times it fixes it but eventually it goes out again and it doesn't matter if it is FreeAmp, Kmp3, or XMMS it just stops. Now in root this NEVER happens, even when sound goes out in my user account, log out and go to root and it is working fine, go back to the user account, not working. I have had problems upgrading nearly anything...programs looking for qt2 or greater say I need to install it even though it is there, I am using Mandrake 7.2 with KDE2 so it would have to be there, besides I looked and it is there. Same thing happens with the glibc2. I am very new, as you probably noticed : ) but I can usually figure most stuff out....not the case here. There is a part of me that wants to go back to windows, even though I know I hated it so much, but my sound is actually more important to me than video. Please, any info will be helpful. I have a AMD K6-2 450mhz machine with 128M ram. voodoo3 card, cmedia 8378 sound card, let me know any thing else you need...umm 11 gig hard drive in case that matters. Thanks!
