I've recently installed Mandrake 8.2 and during the graphical install, my mouse works fine. I select wheel mouse (Or any other mouse), and test the wheel when it asks me to and it seems to work. But when the install is complete, and the system reboots...I get an error stating that /dev/psaux Device Or Resource Busy. I found people with a similar problem which was fixed by editing /etc/X11/XF86Config to look like this:
Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Mouse0"
Driver "mouse"
Option "Protocol" "IMPS/2" (or just "PS/2")
Option "Device" "/dev/psaux" (or /dev/mouse)
#Option "Buttons" "3"
#Option "Emulate3Buttons"
Option "Buttons" "5"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"

I tried this and variations of it and still my mouse just sits frozen in the middle of the screen. Please, someone must have gotten a PS/2 Wheel mouse to work in mandrake 8.2. My mouse is just a RadioShack brand 3 button PS/2 wheel mouse (2 button, and wheel press = 3 button) Also, is this just a mandrake 8.2 problem, or a general Linux issue? Please help.

Cheers!!!

It's certainly not a general linux issue and I have installed MD8.2 before with a PS/2 wheel mouse. Perhaps you could post your /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 file for us to have a look at. I had a similar problem once when I had configured X incorrectly and had two mouse sections. I removed one and it worked fine.

Please do not crosspost. We can see all the posts in all the forums.

And you must admit it's not really fair to others.

Thank-you

Sorry about the crosspost...

My XF86Config and XF86Config-4 files, in the Input Device section, both read:

Identifier "Mouse1"
Driver "mouse"
Option "Protocol" "PS/2"
Option "Device" "/dev/psaux" (or /dev/mouse)
Option "Buttons" "5"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"

When I switched both XF86Config files to use the device /dev/mouse and restarted, I still got the /dev/psaux Device or Resource Busy message. WHere is Linux getting this configuration from. Thanks!!

Cheers!!!

can you please delete this post or the other one to stop people wasting time when suggestions have already been made.

I dont see how people are wasting time trying to help someone else out. I've been trying all the different suggestions...the more people who see the problem, the more that may be able to help. Sorry for the duplicate posts again...I really did not mean to pis3 you off that much.

I'm not saying that I don't want to help atall. One of the rules is not to cross post as if mrBen is answering in one forum and someone else is answering in another forum your are duplicating information/checks to be done. You might have fixed the problem in one forum and someone could be spending time suggesting things in another. As I originally posted:

We like others to play by the rules the same as we do. After all we are the ones that are volunteering our own time to help others.

Abide by the rules and you shall get assistance.

I really don't see why some should have unfair advantage by posting their questions in multiple forums.

Personally I will not offer help to those that crosspost. My time, my decision.

Tempting, but someone will jump on me if I used it for my sig. You know how some are.

I still haven't decided (or really thought about) what to include in my sig.
