No sound

I installed RH 7.3 but when booting I don't have any sound. Nor in a prompt nor in KDE. I have a VIA8233 chipset (which rh recognises)
Anyone any idea?

Assuming RH 7.3 still has it, try /sbin/sndconfig.

Can you open a mixer?

I can open Kmix all my channels are open.
I can also open sndconfig
it recognises my card
Via 8233 chipset, but when testing sound it keeps hanging in it
No iea whats wrong, when opening XMMS or noatun, I can open a file, but whern trying to play it just freezes

Check to make sure you have write permissions on /dev/dsp, /dev/mixer*, and /dev/audio. Or check to see what group those devices belong and if you are a member of that group.

I changed them all to 777 so I must have permission
still no sound
the strange thing is that XMMS plays mp3's on esound, but there is no output
(I should have stayed with MDK)
