You didn't mention what sort of computer you or model CDROM drive. I have to assume that the computer is relatively old otherwise why not just boot directly to CD. By the same token I assume your cdrom is not a standard ATAPI model. The old 1-4x drives had proprietary interfaces and need special drivers. It is even possible you are dealing with a notebook with an external drive. Depending on the model, special commands must be delivered to get it to boot. Without more info we can't really help though this might point you in the right direction. ------------------ Just a Tuna in the Sea of Life nameless132 12-13-2000, 07:37 PM Sorry, i was in a hurry it's a 486 based with a 2x mitsumi cd-rom (school's) mdwatts 12-14-2000, 05:09 AM As Shad said, your drive will need special drivers since it's a 2x. Will Storm Linux allow you to create a modules disk besides the install (boot) diskette? Some distros have proprietary hardware drivers on the modules disk that may work. I have no experience with Storm though. nameless132 12-14-2000, 12:11 PM where would i get these drivers? i have some for dos and windows but where do i get it for linux? nameless132 12-14-2000, 12:16 PM Where do i get those linux divers for the cd? because i have no idea what you mean by modules i have the drivers for windows and dos and i know that that won't work. maybe tell me link where it would have it? camelrider 12-15-2000, 02:09 AM I've no history with Storm, but if they have online support you might give them the model number, etc of your cdrom drive and ask if they know of a module you can include with your bootdisk image. (edit) Oops! I think thee is an option when conpiling the kernel to include support for proprietory cdrom drives. Therefore it may be necessary for them to supply a bootdisk image with this feature compiled in. It's definitely worth asking them.(edit) ------------------ We'll get thisright yet! [This message has been edited by camelrider (edited 15 December 2000).] mdwatts 12-15-2000, 02:22 AM Most distros allow you to create a install and modules disk using the rawrite utility on the CD. You run the 'dos' rawrite util against the install.img and modules.img to create them. Look around the contents of the CD for a DOS or similar directory and read the readme's for instructions. I'm not saying for sure that there will be proprietary drivers for your old CD drive on the modules diskette, but there could be. Other than that, check with Storm support. justlinux.com
