ok... this gets REALLY annoying... I have an ATI 64 vivo and its great with winblows but in linux, it will just crap out. I thought it was the monitor at first, but its a software/driver/card problem. Anyone know how i can fix this? anyone else have probems like this?
thanks

ATI has a sort-of explanation of what is going on here (http://www.ati.com/developer/linux.html). If you know which versions of XFree86 you have available to you, then you might check the Web site (http://www.xfree86.org/4.2.0/Status6.html#6)for XFree86 ATI support.

Could try posting the chipset. I might have something that can help you.

The physical card may tell you what chipset (i.e. Radeon) it uses right on the card. It also should be listed on the box if you purchased retail and of course still have the box it came in.
Also check the manual and/or the ATI site that jglen490 posted.
What I would do myself would be to use Google ( www.google.com/linux (http://www.google.com/linux) ) to search for ATI 64 vivo and see if there are any suggestions for setup/configuration.
