I am currently using REALLY OLD tape drives to backup about 100Gigs of data. It really sucks because I have to swap tapes every 40Gigs or so. I need something that I can backup 100 Gigs or so on without swapping. This I would venture to guess would probably have to be a SCSI solution. Can anybody tell me what type of drive I should be looking for???

my god!!! 100 gigs
well tapes is what i use, and yea i hear ya with the swaping tapes every few gigs. if you have THAT much stuff, you may as well invest in a SCSI HDD that you can use as a backup..... although if it crashes, your FSCKED (yes.. i ment to type an S). Well, tapes is all i see... you could do DVD's i think they could process data faster but they are only 9 gigs and i donno if there is a DVD-rw :)

good luck finding one... if you do let me know :)

SToragtek and others have 9840 model III's out that can do 120G tapes, with up to 360 Gb compressed ... however being high end DLT units, the tapedrives start around $4500 per and *really* need to be attached to a SCSI SCA HBA ..
If that all confuses you, ... its gonna be painful.
I have an 8Gb dat drive and a 36 Gb DLTII unit myself, and these kinda push the limits of my budget... the tapes for the 9840 model III's --- aren't exactly cheap either ... they run about $120 per...

(note ..the above prices are in CD$)

IDE hard drives are cheap enough these days. If you are trying to backup a personal computer rather than an office server, just drop $160 for a 120Gb IDE harddrive or two.

Server, not a PC.
