Sndconfig crashed/Linux hangs during snd driver loading

Hi,

It took me 3 tries to dual boot Win2k and RH7.0. I got everything but the soundcard (Hurcules Muse XL) to work. I ran sndconfig, got up to the sound test part then it hung. Running out of patience I bounced it. It came up, did a disk check(Passed) then got to loading the sound device (via82cxxx) then hung. I press "I" every time for "Interactive" but it keeps loading automtically. I have a boot disk but I changed lilo.config before installing the soundcard and didn't update the disk. Now booting up w/ lilo hangs at loading sound device (cant do interactive mode)
and the boot disk installation cant boot because of misconfiged lilo or bad disk sectors. Anyone know of a way out of this(Besides reinstallation)

Does anyone know if Linux7.0 supports Hercules Muse XL cards?

The Google search did not find much at all.

Not English, but it may help. You may need the 2.4 kernel and OSS enabled.

Try booting with your install cd and at the prompt, enter

boot root=/dev/hd?#

Replace ? and # with your drive and partition number.

Or try booting normally and enter

linux single

One of those should get you in so you can fix the problem.


Cette carte son fonctionne parfaitement, aussi bien avec ALSA (version testé: 0.9 beta4) qu'avec le module OSS (kernel testé: 2.4.6 et suppérieur).

If you are having sndconfig probe your card, try it with the noprobe option and enter your card values manually, i.e., IRQ, DMA, etc.
