Flash Disk

Hello, I have a flash disk (DIsk on Module)that I want to use with my RH 7.2. Since, I have no way of changing jumpers and making it slave, I have it on my secondary IDE bus. Now the redhat boots from the primary master and sees this as a secondary master at the boot time. Also I see that it is assigned "hdc" during the startup. Once I logina and try to fdisk it, I get an error "Unable to open /dev/hdc". I get similar errors while trying sfdisk and cfdisk. Is there any other way of trying this to create partitions on the Flash disk?
My main aim is to install a stripped down RH6.2 on this flash drive whose Image (created by part magic) exists on my main hard drive.
