Ive run accross an odd problem when trying to mount disks in my cdrom drive when mounting I get a no media msg I am running Vector6.0 kde my cdwriter will mount the disks and I have pretty much ruled out a hardware or media issue since I can mount drive using Slax live distro I haven't tried my Vector live disk yet. my fstab and my mtab files appear correct an I dount get complaints about drive not in fstab/mtab. Im leaning toward some kind of driver issue. Any thoughts?

Is your user a part of the cdrom group?

I haven't checked that but since it was working sometimes at first I would assume so and it also does it running as root.

Do you have different results as "root" ?
If so you might have to edit your /fstab entry for your cdrom mine reads like this in slackware 12.1;
/dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom auto noauto,user,ro 0 0
good luck

Don't know if this is something to do with it but I have the problem that if the CD is put in the drive, and then the drive is left open. And then try to mount it. Then the draw does not close fast enough and grind away a bit before the thing decides there is no medium. It is resolved by simply mounting again, once the draw is closed.
This is a problem with modern kernels at least on my thing.
