Know sod all about security. Hope this is not sort of off topic.

If you use the Open Solaris operating system inside Sun's VirtualBox software computer when you're on the Internet is that so obscure it makes things secure?

No more or less than running OpenSolaris on your real hardware... or Linux or OS X, one of the BSDs, etc.

My bank vaguely seems to think a virtual machine makes things more secure when you do internet banking. You know, intuitively, if a virtual computer gets "hacked into" it seems like the virtual disk will be infected, not the real, host, operating system??

Any 'hackers' listening: I don't do banking from this machine.
