I am relieved to know there is no question too simple as this seems "incredibly" simple (from my limited Win-World perspective).

I would like to change the screen resolution on my SuSE SLES 10 server as my KVM switch seems to not be responding to the current resolution. I've tried to open the "Graphics Card and Monitor" link from YaST2, but it is unresponsive. Other links respond, so I know Yast is functioning properly.

I've googled "SLES screen resolution" and gotten many hits for SLED, but little in the SLES category. What I have found suggests I modify the xorg.conf file and when I open the file, it says "please do not modify this file". As I read through the file, I am not confident I can modify the file and not mess up the settings completely (currently I can access the system via VNC). This is a production server so I would like to do it right the first time.

Any suggestions, help, links?

Thanks,
Geekstur

Are we talking about X, if so:

With X a standard keybinding is ctrl+alt+keypad +, or - for that matter. It should cycle through the available resolutions. It's worth a try. By default X should be using the highest available resolution.

No need to be that nervous of fiddling with xorg.conf as long as your monitor is reasonably up to date.

Not sure what you mean by "X", unless you are referring to SLES 10. In which case, yes. Unfortunately, the monitor I am using is older. I can access the unit via ILO though, so no harm in trying. Thanks for your reply
